He was predeceased by: his parents, William James and Willie Ree Watkins (Blount); his former wife Sylvia Watkins; his daughter Cheryl Snead; and his sisters, Louise Johns and Catherine Lyons.

He is survived by: his wife Katherine Watkins; his daughters, Rene Payne and Linda Watkins; his grandchildren, Marcus, Alana and Tanya Payne; his sons-in-law, Stephen Payne and Roland Snead; his sister Joyce Giddens; his brothers-in-law, Harry Lyons and Robert Giddens; and his stepsons, Stephen and John Lowe. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, their spouses and children and his many friends.
