He was predeceased by: his parents, Johann Hegwein and Ottilia Hegwein (Kienburger). He is survived by: his wife Anna; his children, Peter (Tallahassee), Thomas Hegwein (Sarasota) and Jennifer (Sarasota); his grandchildren, Karl Hegwein of Portland, OR, Hunter Byrne (Sarasota) and Natalie Hegwein (Sarasota); his brother Hans Hegwein (Germany); and his children-in-law, Cynthia Hegwein and Robert Byrne.
