He was predeceased by: his parents, Maurice VanDeGrift and Mary Lou VanDeGrift (Williams); his former wife Ilene May VanDeGrift (Eley); his wife Dottie VanDeGrift (Mellinger); his son Cary VanDeGrift; and his brother-in-law John Paulus.
He is survived by: his children, Kelly VanDeGrift, Gayle (Greg Ruwe), Barbara (Barry Bolyard) and David (Heidi VanDeGrift); his grandchildren, Katie, Chris Fields, Rebecca VanDeGrift, Caroline VanDeGrift, Emily, Jeff Kinard, Holly, Matt Kensill, Steve, Candy Bolyard, Bret Bolyard, Paige VanDeGrift and Lucas VanDeGrift; his great grandchildren, Lucie Fields, Sam Fields, Ben Kinard, Claire Kinard, Sydney Kensill and Chase Kensill; and his siblings, Myra Jean Paulus, James and Rosie VanDeGrift. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
