He is survived by: his children, Suzanne Blank, Lisa Emberger and Steven Merkt; his former wife Regina Casey; his grandchildren, Christine Ortiz, Rebecca Higley, Samantha Merkt, Harrison Merkt, Sean Emberger and Elizabeth Emberger; his great grandchildren, Karina Ortiz, Alex Ortiz, Carmen Portillo, Benjamin Higley, Samuel Higley and Fitzroy Rodriques-Merkt; and his brother Albert Merkt.
