He was predeceased by: his parents, George Norwood and Pauline Atkinson (Grady). He is survived by: his wife Helen Atkinson; his children, Kimberly Hilliard (David), Douglas Atkinson, Jr. (Earline) and Karen Rex; his siblings, Sam Atkinson (Jean), Jeanette Raper (Ken) and Linda Sue Acey; his grandchildren, Melissa Serritella (Bill), Ashlee Walker (Keith), Nicholas Coggon (Elizabeth), Micah Coggon, Joshua Atkinson (Ashley) and Christopher Atkinson (Adela); and his great grandchildren, Jonathan, Gunnar, Enzo, Gemma, Ruby, Hayden, Joshua Jr. and Bentley.
