He was predeceased by: his parents, James Newton and Isabelle Irene Townsend (Chiles); his wife Willa Dean Gibson; his brothers, J. N. and C. E. Townsend; his nephew Mike Townsend; and his great-nephew Josh Rutledge.
He is survived by: his daughter Cathy Mobley; his son-in-law Tom Mobley; his nieces and nephews, Laura, Chuck, John, Tammy, Nita and James Paul; his sisters-in-law, Linda and Marion Gibson; and his nieces and nephews, Dana, Debbie, Bryan and Roger.
