She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, William "Frank" Edenton and Alice Edenton; her children, Matthew Hodge (Erin) of Bethesda and Amy Hood (Lee) of Wynne; her grandchildren, Heather, Alexander, William, Margaret and Jack; her great grandchildren, Chase and Adalyn; and her husband Paul German.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida for their care and compassion during Melissa; and Paul's final days or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of her grandson and cancer survivor, Jack Hood.

“Dear loved ones,, my deepest condolences for the loss of Melissa.. we were best friends in High school. We shared a lot of funny experiences as teenagers , including ventures into Chicago , where we met two young college. boys from Peru at a dance .at University of Chicago.., named Hector and Telmo.. We double dated them for a few months., learning a lot about South America in the process. Melissa was intelligent, ,curious, open and kind hearted.. I think about her often. Sincerely, Jan”

“Melissa & I were friends at Rich East HS. After high school, she asked me to become her Confirmation Sponsor. I was very honored that she asked me. Unfortunately after HS, we lost touch, I moved to California & Melissa to Florida. Thank goodness for Face Book we reconnected & were able to keep in touch again. I wasn’t aware of her cancer, I’m so sorry for her passing from that terrible disease. She is now at peace. My sincerest Condolences to Melissas’s family & friends. Margaret Equihua”
