Sue Earlene (Colwell) Ford Obituary

Sue Ford, lifelong environmental activist and the first female Port Commissioner elected to the Canaveral Port Authority, passed away peacefully in her home at age 72 on 2/20/2020.
Her leadership in the community was broad; President East MI HOA 1981, President Merritt Island Executive Council in 1983, two terms as Port Commissioner 1984 & 1988, delegate for President George H.W. Bush’s re-election bid in 1992, Senior District 2 Co. Commission Aide 1994-1995 and spearheading a campaign to prevent the construction of a cargo railway along the imperiled Banana and Indian River lagoons. Sue is survived by her son Dustin Ford, daughter Lori Horne, her brother Bobby Colwell and her two grandchildren Chasey and Cameron Horne. Her loss will be felt throughout the Brevard County environmental and activism communities. A celebration of Sue’s life is planned for 4/10/2020 at 1 p.m. at Rusty’s in Port Canaveral. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Sierra Club in her name via:
