Kathryn P. Mitchell Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Kathryn P. Mitchell (Quincy, Florida), who passed away on November 7, 2023, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Eugene Phelps and Ella Phelps. She is survived by: her sons, Chuck Mitchell (Patty) of Tallahassee and John Mitchell (Tina) of Tallahassee; and her siblings, Harry Phelps (Vern), Frank Phelps and Patricia Taylor (Woody). She is also survived by Many cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
There was a polio pandemic in 1947, so she went to work on polio vaccinations.
She was hired briefly by the American Cancer Society, but, despite her best efforts, they would not acknowledge smoking as a public health issue at that time in tobacco-dependent North Carolina.
