He was predeceased by: his grandmother Ella Norris; his parents, L. P. Ray and Idell Norris Ray; and his brothers, Louis T. Ray and John E. Ray.

He is survived by: his siblings, Ellen Kyser, Minnie Ola Duray, Albert Ray, Zola Taylor, Vivian Thompson, Richard Ray and Lola Mondy; and his close friend Sherry Dozier. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
