She was predeceased by: her husband Assefa Tessema of Addis Abeba, Ethiopia; her siblings, Ghermay Afewerk of Asmara, Eritrea, Makonnen Afewerk of Miami, FL and Bisrat Afewerk of Portland, Oregon.; and her parents, Afewerk Nemariam and Hanna Kassa.

She is survived by: her children, Joy Assefa of Switzerland, Ezana Assefa Tessema of Nairobi Kenya and Henock Assefa of New York, NY..
