He was predeceased by: his parents, Cynthia Elizabeth Sasser and Leonard Sumter, Sr.; and his brothers, Michael Timothy Sumter and Lt. Colonel Leonard Sumter. He is survived by: his wife Dale Sumter; his stepchildren, Robin Helton (Todd) and William Bodne (Holly); his grandchildren, Cameron Helton, Lillie Kate Bodne, Elle Helton and Lincoln Bodne; and his sister-in-law Gloria Sumter.
