He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Allen and Annie Lee; his siblings, Lutoy, Betty and Larry; and his former wife Grace Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Inez Gilley; his daughter Cathy Witherspoon; his stepdaughter Lynda McMonigle; and his grandchildren, Tracy Witherspoon, Joseph Witherspoon (Elisa), Kelly Caldwell (Isaac), Cooper, Jr. and Crystal Jones (Stephen). He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
