He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Randolph Merrill and Margaret Merrill Hyde; his brothers, Kenneth "Biff" Merrill and Michael "Buster" Merrill; and his daughter-in-law Stefanie Merrill.
He is survived by: his children, Buffy Holcomb (Jason), Cassy Thompson (Eli) and Carson Merrill; his grandchildren, Ruby Holcomb, Merrill Holcomb, Breagyn Jenkins, Cora Jenkins, Stratton Rose Thompson, Jackson Wray (Ava), Carson Canady and Moriah Canady; and his sister Becky Morgan (Dan). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
