He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Robert Oertel and Jane V. Oertel; his wife Linda Gardner; his daughters, Lisa O. Reich (Duke Reich) and Carrie Oertel (David Dubendorfer); and his grandchildren, Daniel Reich, Luke Reich, Charlotte Dubendorfer and Jacob Dubendorfer.
