He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Jonner Maxey Sr. and Ferrel Montgomery Maxey; his wife Karen; and his sister Beulah Funderburke. He is survived by: his daughter Teresa Monroe (Walter); his nieces, Kari Lynch (Dennis) and Marci Beiser (Greg); his grandchildren, Emily Gonzales (Mark), Nickolas Monroe (Loralee), Ellyn Jewitt, Elizabeth Monroe, Luke Beiser, Nate Beiser, Gabrielle Monroe, Sean Lynch and Grace Beiser; and his great grandchildren, Julian Hastings, Paisley Monroe, Lenox Monroe, Maci Petrin and Bexley Monroe.
