He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren Gilbert and Mary Gilbert. He is survived by: his wife Suzy Barritt Gilbert; his children, Barritt Gilbert (Emmy), Amy Carter (Britton) and Ivy Spencer (Tom); his grandchildren, William Gilbert (Sophie), Anne-Elizabeth Garza (Luis), Thomas Gilbert, Mary Harbin Gilbert, Benjamin Carter, Reid Carter (Tori), Will Carter, Peter Spencer, Anna Spencer and James Spencer; and his sisters, Susan Harvey (late David) and Edith Ethridge (Larry). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of Darlington School, the Rome Area Heritage Foundation and the Coosa Country Club.
