She was predeceased by: her parents, John H. Scheel and Lavina V. Scheel (Leiper); her former husband Austin B. Barnes, Jr.; her husband Robert K. Garrett; and her siblings, Earl J., Robert C. Scheel (Mary Agnes) and Mary Ann Scheel-Carichner (Harry).
She is survived by: her children, Austin B. Barnes III (Janice), Beverly G. Barnes (Gail Robbins) and Norine K. Barnes. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
