Mark Rumney Obituary
Mark Allen Rumney, 46, left this earthly realm on January 13th, 2023, after experiencing an unexpected heart attack and stroke complications in Orlando Florida.
He was born in Sanford, Maine on September 15th, 1976, to Caroline Anne and Russell Everett Rumney, Jr., both of whom have preceded him in death within the last year.
Mark graduated from Wells High School in 1994 and was more than happy to move to Florida with his parents when they retired shortly after. He spent his early adulthood working for a few well-known companies in Ocala; Merillat Cabinetry, Signature Brands, and E-One, and he did a short stint for C.R. England Trucking before settling into the role of Auto Care Center Service Manager at Walmart during the last ten years.
Mark played Dungeons and Dragons at the kitchen table with his dad, brother Dave, and sister Diane when he was young, so it was no surprise that he found a home in online gaming when the Internet was still new. The Final Fantasy franchise was a favorite from the start. Path of Exile was his most recent favorite role-playing game. Mark connected with many people through gaming, and some have been longtime friends. His online cohort knew him as Zebadiah or "Zeb." He loved reading sci-fi and fantasy books as well as anything with a wry twist of humor - Terry Pratchett novels, The Far Side comics, Fark.com, and The Onion were just a few examples. Monty Python's Flying Circus and the Star Wars movies were favorites in his formative years. These all helped to shape the dark, sarcastic wit his family and friends cherished.
Mark loved motorcycles and rode his Honda CBR to Daytona Bike Week with his brother Dave and sister-in-law Vicki multiple times where much fun was had. He also completed the Iron Butt motorcycle ride, riding from Florida to Maine in 2001. The nickname "Uncle Daddy Mark" was born during this trip and was a great term of endearment for family members.
The Florida theme parks were also memory filled trips for Mark and his family. His sister, Diane joined him on quite a few outings to Universal Studios and Disney World, the most recent one for his 46th birthday last September. They stood in line in the pouring rain for two hours just to go on the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance ride, which had just opened recently. Both thought nothing of the soaking. The old DisneyQuest and its five-story building with nothing but video games was Mark's ultimate playground.
Mark is survived by his brother Dave Rumney and sister-in-law Vicki, his sister Diane Arnold and brother-in-law Craig, his three nephews Benjamin Rumney, David Arnold, and Timothy Arnold, whom he affectionately called Huey, Dewey, and Louie and his two orange cats Ebisu (EB) and Enki. He will be missed by many friends, colleagues, and extended family.
Mark graciously donated his body for the benefit of others on his passing. His family requests in lieu of flowers please take care of your own health and tell the people you love that you love them, often. If you would like to donate to a charitable foundation, the family suggests St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or please find one that speaks to you. Pour out a bottle of Mountain Dew in his memory.
