She was predeceased by: her father Oscar Ishmael; and her brother Noel Ishmael. She is survived by: her husband Stanton Sheogobind; and her children, Stanton Sheogobind, Jr., Indira Carey, Sharmilla Araya, Kamala Whitty and Geetangeli Sheogobind. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren.

She often helped orphanages in Guyana, preparing meals and sending donations well after her move to the US.
