He was predeceased by: his parents, John Carpenter and Ruth Carpenter; and his grandparents, Cyrus and Cornelia Carpenter. He is survived by: his uncle Lee; his aunt Gertie Carpenter; his cousins, Doug and Barbara Carpenter; his children, Richard Long (Maria), David Long (Susan), Susan Raines (Marshall) and Martha Soper (Jack); his grandchildren, Alison (Jim), Rachel, Wendy (Shane), Mike, Katie (Grant) and Nick (Becca); and his great grandchildren, Natalie (Chase), Olivia, Jake, Michael, Katie, Zella, Emma and Aster.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14th 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Congregational Church (210 Melrose Ave, Tryon, NC 28782).
