He was predeceased by: his parents, Juan Hernández and Cruz González. He is survived by: his son John Douglas; his wife Gladys Merced-Hernández; his sisters, Lydia H. Bell and Ramona "Nina" Sessa; his nephews, John James Hunter, Dwayne Zandman and Louis Sessa; and his niece Lucille Baumann.
