He was predeceased by: his parents, Minnie Wagner and Henry Mertens; and his siblings, Alfred Mertens, Marlo Mertens, Wendell Mertens, Lois Dowdle, Katherine Vejar, Maxine Manny, Geraldine Mertens and Leona Liggett.
He is survived by: his wife Beverly Mertens; his children, Lynn Mertens (Lorie), Tony Mertens and Tammy Mertens; his stepchildren, Beth Gardner, Amy Heaton, Doug Heaton (Christine) and Roger Heaton (Meg); and his siblings, Lola Scott, Harlan Mertens, Bernell Mertens and Royce Mertens. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and even great great grandchildren.
Viewing will be held on Monday, October 7th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Victory Baptist Church (1601 A D Mims Rd, Ocoee, FL 34761). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 7th 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the same location. A reception will be held on Monday, October 7th 2024 at 2:30 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Monday, October 7th 2024 at 3:15 PM at the Glen Haven Memorial Park (2300 Temple Dr, Winter Park, FL 32789).
