He is survived by: his wife Beverly Mertens; his children, Lynn Mertens (Lorie), Tony Mertens and Tammy Mertens; his stepchildren, Beth Gardner, Amy Heaton, Doug Heaton (Christine) and Roger Heaton (Meg); and his siblings, Lola Scott, Harlan Mertens, Bernell Mertens and Royce Mertens. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and even great great grandchildren.
