He is survived by: his wife Llewellyn McKernan; his daughter Katie Borgman; his son-in-law Mike Borgman; his grandchildren, Ashley, Kyle and Alyssa Borgman; his siblings, James, Dan, David, Peter and Margo Schmeising; and his sister-in-law Elizabeth McKernan. He is also survived by many nieces, and nephews.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, April 24th 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church (4000 S Atlantic Ave, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169). A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 24th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Thursday, April 24th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery (700 S Ridgewood Ave, Edgewater, FL 32132).
He was one of three finalists for the 200l Professor of the Year Award by the Faculty Merritt Foundation, and one year won the faculty's Distinguished Artist and Scholar Award.
