In the hush of twilight, as the stars twinkle in silent homage, we reflect on the legacy Joan leaves behind and her impact on the lives of her loved ones. Though Joan may no longer walk among us, her spirit lives on in the memories held dear by her family and friends, a guiding light that illuminates their paths in times of darkness.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Alex Fischer and Ione Fischer; her brother Rev. Jack Fischer; her son Josef Walter Materna; and her grandson Matthew Materna.
She is survived by: her husband Walter Materna; and her children, Michael Materna of Olean, NY, Wendy Rose of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Cathy Materna of Port Orange, FL.. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, a cause Joan supported many times throughout her life.
