He is survived by: his wife Doris; his daughters, Simone Carter Johnson [Lyder] and Robin Carter Knecht [Bruce]; his grandchildren, Lincoln Johnson, Cearra Johnson Rinaldi [Alexander], Ashley Knecht Lash [Ian], Amber Knecht Phelps [Jonathan] and Alec Carter Knecht [Sheye]; and his sister Kathy Carter. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
