He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Emil Szpyt and Sophie Szpyt (Sitarz); his wife Mary Paul; his children, Susan (Michael Franco), Daniel Jr. (Theresa Szpyt), Corinne (Todd Miller) and Nicole Lynn Young; his brother Robert (Gail Szpyt); his former wife Mary Ann Banasiak; and his grandchildren, Anthony Franco, Nicholas Franco, Jessica Szpyt and Brendan Miller.

Due to the ongoing COVID crisis, a private US Navy Military Honors Service will be held.
