He was predeceased by: his parents, Gunnar Peterson and Mabel Peterson (Johnson); his wife Joan Peterson (Henderson); his brother Robert Peterson; and his nephew Brian Peterson.

He is survived by: his significant other Ala Keller Gahlbeck.
