He was predeceased by: his parents, Erwin Clayton and Marie Clayton; and his sister Mary Elizabeth Clayton Smith. He is survived by: his wife Nicky Collins Clayton of Micanopy; his children, Joye Marie Clayton of Miami Beach, FL, Christian Clayton Parrett, Jamey, James E. Clayton III and Trey; his great grandchild Emeline Leigh Clayton; his son John; his brother Paul Stanley Clayton (Signe) of Gainesville, FL; his grandfather Jim; and also, Shelby Clayton Sullivan (Eric), Sean Malone Clayton, Colin Paul Clayton and Diana Marie Clayton. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

For many years he 'rang the bell' for Christmas donations for the Army.
