He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Albert Crespo and Alice Crespo; and his grandparents, Pablo Crespo-Perez and Cuban Revolutionary.
In November 2020, as a result of the pandemic and the discovery that he had inoperable liver cancer, Crespo announced his retirement.
In lieu of flowers, Crespo requested everyone vote at every opportunity.
