He was predeceased by: his brothers, Rudyard Samms, Larry Samms, Phillip Samms and Stanley Samms; his daughter Yvette Samms; his parents, Caswell Samms and Edna Barnes; and his grandparents, Agustus Samms and Emily Channer.

He is survived by: his significant other Fedricka Samms; his children, Wendy Samms Farmer-Stewart (Glen), Judith A. Samms (Julit), Rohan Samms (Valrie), Clayton Samms, Kevin Samms (Prisly), Arthur Johnson (Linda), Norma Howard (Cornelius) and Althea Johnson Vannoy (Ron); and his siblings, Fabian Samms (Ordonna), Caswell Jr., Dahlia Aitherson, Ernestine Samms and Kathleen Nesmith.
