Virginia Lucretia Woodruff Ward Obituary
Virginia Lucretia Woodruff Ward, 96, of Melbourne Beach, Florida passed away on July 12, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born February 9, 1928 in Daviess County Indiana to Roy Woodruff and Avis Gwendolyn Arnold Woodruff. Mrs. Ward was a 1946 graduate of Washington High School in Washington, Indiana. She married Richard Edward Ward on July 24, 1949 in Washington, Indiana.
Mrs. Ward worked for the Brown Shoe Company and for Indiana Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator in Vincennes, Indiana. She was a loving wife and full-time homemaker while raising her daughter and son. Mrs. Ward was a charter member of the Wabash Cannonballs Chapter of the National Campers and Hikers Association. She enjoyed reading and camping in a custom made travel trailer while touring the United States with her family, Mrs. Ward moved to Melbourne Beach with her husband in 1986.
She was preceded in death by her son, Roy E. Ward; husband, Richard E. Ward; and grandson, Billy J. Grundell. Mrs. Ward is survived by her daughter, Gwendolyn (Garry) Grundell of Melbourne Beach, Florida; grandchild, Christina Wilson ofAlbany, Georgia; two greatgrandchildren, Destiny Grundell of Bowling Green Kentucky and Colby Wilson of Albany, Georgia; one great-great- grandchild, Brantley Grundell; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A private burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Washington, IN.
