With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Joann Gates in Melbourne Beach, Florida, born in Crawfordsville, Indiana, who passed away on January 1, 2022 at the age of 86. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Harold Runyon and Helen Runyon; her husband Bill Gates; her siblings, Ted Runyon, Ronnie Runyon, Theresa Davidson, Shirley Priest and Jackie Hession; and her grandsons, Grant and Derk Gates.
She is survived by: her children, Damon Gates (Patty), Don Gates (Peggy), Denny Gates, David "Pete" Gates (Brenda) and Denise Chitwood (Fred); her grandchildren, Heather Burress (Matt), Doug Chitwood, Trent Chitwood (Ben), Sara Spray (Doug), Sheri Lister (Tom), Chad Gates (Angi), Julie Purnell (Vern), Danielle Ridley and David Gates, Jr.; her brothers, Leo Runyon of Atlanta and Richard Runyon of Brownsburg; and also Joann. She is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
