He was predeceased by: his parents, Milton Van Pelt and Eleanor McCreary Van Pelt (McCreary); and his son Jeffrey Van Pelt. He is survived by: his daughters, Luray Oppedisano (Rocky Oppedisano), Julie Harris (Jordan Harris) and Jenna Scolaro (Timothy Scolaro); his friend Marilyn Van Pelt; his grandchildren, Rocco, Ashley Oppedisano, Angelina, Kai Van Pelt, Jordan Harris, Jr., Emma and Olivia Scolaro; and his sisters, Barbara Macko and Eleanor Champagne.
