He was predeceased by: his brother Ariel Matos Jr.. He is survived by: his parents, Zeida Montanez and Ariel Matos Sr.; his stepfather Victor Montanez; his son Joel Matos Jr.; his sisters, Neida Montanez, Leira Matos and Yaire Montanez; and his nieces, Arianna Matos and Zaniah Feliciano.
