He was predeceased by: his wife Betty Hall Sands; and his parents, George W. Sands and Nellie Thrift Sands. He is survived by: his son Ellis "Artie" Starling (Deborah) of Macclenny, Florida; and his siblings, Annie Rogers of Whitehouse, Florida and Dub Sands of Macclenny, Florida. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
