Lynn D. Gibson Obituary
Lynn D. Gibson, 80, of Longwood, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at his residence. He was born in Montcalm, West Virginia on May 10, 1943 to the late Avron Virgil Gibson and Mary Marguerite Wagner Gibson. Lynn graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1966 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. In 1965, he married Louise McNulty "Weesie," his beloved wife of 55 years. They moved from West Virginia to Virginia to Alabama and finally settled in Central Florida in 1979. His career was in heavy highway and bridge construction as a general contractor and later as a consultant engineer. Since moving to Orlando, he contributed to the construction of numerous roads and bridges that have left an indelible mark on the Central Florida landscape. A lifelong golfer, he continued his pursuit of the perfect swing in retirement, and enjoyed watching the West Virginia Mountaineers play football and basketball. He was a devoted husband and father who was dedicated to his family, his faith, and his church.
Along with his parents, he is predeceased by wife Louise Gibson; sister Phyllis Gibson; brother Gary Gibson; and stepmother Jaynette Perkins Gibson. Survivors include daughter Mary Byrd (Jim) of Lake Mary; daughter Pam Byrd (David) of Altamonte Springs; son Jonathan Gibson (Erin) of Longwood; daughter Carrie Gibson of Atlanta; grandchildren Meagan and Matthew Byrd, Tyler and Whitney Gibson; and brother Mike Gibson of Bluefield, WV.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 12th at 11:00 am at City Sanctuary Church in DeLand, with burial following at Oakdale Cemetery in DeLand. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to "Renovations for Generations" remodeling fund at City Sanctuary Church in DeLand, FL.
