He was predeceased by: his parents, David McCarl and Lucy McCarl; and his brother Nick McCarl. He is survived by: his children, Kim Swartzel (Steve) and Jason McCarl; his stepchildren, Dee Dee Cathcart (Ricky) and Dion Sweat (Katie); his brothers, Jim McCarl and Donald McCarl (Lisa); and his sister-in-law Pam McCarl. He is also survived by Fourteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren.
