He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph L. and Mary E. Metzger; his wife Betty Sullivan of Louisville; and his brothers, Joseph (Betty), John (Irene), James (Francis) and Charles (Bonnie).

He is survived by: his children, Michael (Marianne), Thomas S., John (Kathy), Steven (Rachel), Patricia Schapley (Ramon) and Katherine Metzger; his grandchildren, Michelle (Patrick), Michael (April), Matthew, Erika (Justin), Morgan, Jack, Sterling, Sadie, Ray, Christa and Aimee; his great grandchildren, Parker, Carson, Charlotte, Natalie, Everett and Quinn; and his sisters, Katherine Park (Richard), Martha Heimbach (George), Mary Ieradi (Joseph) and Monica Atkins (Mike). He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
