He was predeceased by: his parents, Grady Phelps and Thelma Phelps; his daughter Karen J. Wells; and his brothers, Darwyn and Joseph Phelps.
He is survived by: his wife Jeannie of Georgia; his siblings, Grady W. Phelps, Gary Phelps (Bunny) and Susie Long (Sammy); his children, Kelly Wells (David) and Kandi Maynard (Will); his son-in-law Bobby Wells; and his grandchildren, Robert "Chase" Wells (Jessica), Wesley D. Wells (Lorissa), Coleman Wells (Laura), Benjamin C. Wells (Rachel), Grady Maynard (Cheyenne) and Paityn Totillo (Austin). He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.
