It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Howard Bates of Lawtey, Florida, born in Gadsden, Alabama, who passed away on November 6, 2023, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, John W. Bates and Cora McLusky Bates; his wife Bernice Epps; his siblings, Robert "Bob" Bates, Floyd Fugatt, Harmon Fugatt, Laura May Kiser and Colleen Sanders; and his nieces, Laura Jane Bates, Tonya Bates and Regina Kirby.
He is survived by: his daughters, Glenda Greenberg (Alan) of Ormond Beach, FL and Donna Kay Brownlee (Jimmy) of Starke, FL; his granddaughters, Donna Harris (David) of Raiford, FL and Wendy L. Padgett of Lawtey, FL; his great grandchildren, Ashley Harris, Shelby Pearson and Jaycee Edwards; and his nieces, Mary Hanson (Garry), Rustee Lane, Gaye Taffs (Sven), Darlene Moser (Victor) and JoAnn Denman (Arthur). He is also survived by many great nieces, great nephews, extended family members, and friends.
