He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Opitz and Cornelia Opitz (Niesen); and his brother Darwin Opitz. He is survived by: his wife Dawn (Woodward); his brothers, Richard Dean Opitz (Mary) of Minneapolis and David Opitz (Verla) of Hutchinson, Minnesota; his daughters, Jennifer Lea Opitz and Nicole Mari Hanvey (David Hanvey); and his grandson Matthew David Hanvey.
