He was predeceased by: his parents, Emmett Sumner and Marcella Sumner; and his son Tom Sumner. He is survived by: his wife Barbara K. Sumner; his daughter Sarah Muldoon; his stepdaughter Karin Brown (Troy); and his siblings, Dan Sumner, Randall Sumner and Raye Southwell. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
