He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Barnes and Bertha Barnes; his wife Carol Anne Barnes; his son Vernon Richard "Ricky" Barnes Jr.; and his siblings, Jerry Barnes, Alan Herrod, Tommy Joe Barnes, Charles Edward Barnes, Glen Barnes, Everett "Tuffy" Barnes, Charlie Gene Barnes, Minnie Stuart, Joyce Rice and Sheila Ann Barnes.
He is survived by: his son Jermie Barnes (Amy Greco) of Lake Wales; his sister-in-law Silkie Herrod; his brothers, Roy Glenn Barnes of Hamilton and Lynn Barnes (Mildred) of Tennessee; and his grandchildren, Emmalyse, Jaiden, Kynlie and Braysen. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
