He is survived by: his wife Barbara Bates; his children, Laura Kingsley of Babson Park, Christine Renfro of Sebring, Dolores Vogel (Buck) of Lake Wales, Dianne Bates, David Bates (Josie) of Ormond Beach, Richard Bates (Liz) and Forrest Mericle (Michelle) of Rocky Mount; his siblings, Dolores Hamrick of Aiken and David Bates (Ann) of Ivoryton, Connecticut; and his pet Clyde. He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his best friend and favorite child.
