He was predeceased by: his daughter Freda Fields; and his parents, Tommy Melton, and Leona Shaw Melton, Sr.. He is survived by: his wife Deloris Melton of Fort White, Florida; his children, Martha Ogburn (Randy) of White Springs, Sarah Thomas (Rodney) of Lake City, Fred Allen Melton, Jr. of Lake City, David Wayne Melton (Tammy) of Fort White, Damien of Lake City, Florida, Amy Gagnon of Lake City, Florida, John of Lake City, Florida, Angie Scott of Lake City, Florida and Terry Zukerman of Lake City, Florida; and his sister Martha Sissions of Lake City, Florida. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren.
