He was predeceased by: his parents, Dewey Carter and Elizabeth Carter; and his sisters, Onnie Pittman, Gertrude Yancey, Annie Mae Meeks and Bertha Mae Hickox.
He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Carter; his sisters, Helen Martin (Horace), Josie Drury and Glenda Portie; and his brothers-in-law, Ralph Courson (Bonnie) and Alan Courson (Joan). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
