He was predeceased by: his parents, Willis Strate and Lillian Strate. He is survived by: his wife Patty Strate; his stepchildren, David Luther Deal, II of Hampton, FL, Vickie Lynn Williams (Clay) of Graceville, FL and Tammy Rebecca Deal-Soto (Tony) of Malone, FL; his siblings, Chuck Strate of Michigan and Joanne Strate of Minnesota; and his siblings-in-law, Arthur, Emile, Mark, Phyllis, Jill and Delia. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
