He was predeceased by: his parents, Percy Gainey and Katie Gainey; his significant other Elizabeth Gainey; his sisters, Willa Mae Gainey and Pearline Blackmon; and also Bootsy.

He is survived by: his children, Richard Gainey, MaryAnn McMillian and Debbie Noland; and his sister Roene Jones. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
