He was predeceased by: his wife Helen Carter; his sons, Eddie and Kenny; and his siblings, Widma Carter, Donnie Carter and Vonceil Blackmon.
He is survived by: his siblings, Mildred Philyaw, Shirley Bryan and Linda Costley; and his daughter Debbie Nicklaus. He is also survived by three grandchildren and several great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
